The short version
PUNBIT collects nothing about you. No analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixel, no cookie, no third-party script on any page. Your theme and your high scores are saved in your own browser and are never sent anywhere. Nothing you play here is reported back to us: there is no backend to report it to.
What is stored in your browser
Two things, both in localStorage on your own device, both written because of something you did:
punbit.theme— light or dark, written when you press NIGHT, so the site opens the way you left it.dendi.scores.<issue>— up to ten of your own runs on one cartridge: a score, an in-game time, and when the run ended. It is a scoreboard against yourself. There is no shared leaderboard, and nobody else can see it.
Neither leaves the browser. Clearing this site’s data deletes both — the Cookie Notice has the how, and the reason there is no consent banner in front of them.
What the pages do not do
There are no third-party requests on any page. The typeface, the jsnes emulator and the GIF encoder are served from this domain rather than a CDN, and there are no embeds, social widgets, comment systems, ad tags or analytics scripts. No other company learns that you were here, because none of them is asked for anything.
The only request a page makes beyond itself is for the cartridge you chose to play, from this same domain.
What the host records
The site is static files, served by Cloudflare Pages. Like any web server it processes ordinary request data — an IP address, the time, the path requested, the browser’s user-agent string — in order to deliver the page and absorb abuse. We have no analytics dashboard over those logs, build no profiles from them, and join them to nothing else. Cloudflare is the host, and handles that data under its own privacy policy ↗.
Sharing, clips and links out
Share hands the issue’s title and link to your device’s own share sheet, or copies them to your clipboard if it has none. Save clip encodes the GIF inside your browser and hands you the file. Neither uploads anything, to us or to anyone else.
Every issue links out to the outlet that published the story. Following one of those links puts you on someone else’s site, under their privacy policy rather than this one.
Subscribing
The only subscription is the RSS feed, which your reader fetches without telling us who you are. There is no mailing list — so there is no address of yours for us to hold, lose, or hand to anybody.
Your rights over your data
We hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing here to ask for a copy of, to correct, or to have deleted. What exists is on your device, under your control. If you think we hold something about you anyway, write to [email protected] and we will look.
If this ever changes
Adding anything that measures readers — analytics, even the privacy-preserving kind — would make this page untrue, so the page gets rewritten before that ships, and anything not strictly necessary gets asked about rather than assumed. The date at the top says when this was last true.
